Shepherd's Colony
Shepherd's Colony are breeders who voluntarily subscribe to a breeding protocol that uses only breeding stock that has successfully passed a high degree of genetic screening in their breeding program. The salient points of the program are as follows:
1.. All dogs and bitches used in the breeding program are at a minimum CHIC certified. Minimum genetic screening involves hips, knees, eyes, and hearts. In addition it is highly recommended that additional areas of study be included for data development basis. In addition to the above if a problem is determined or reasonably considered likely to be present in a breeding line, these areas should also be included where there are tests available or inclusion.
2. All dogs and bitches are included in CHIC DNA repository program. We recommend the blood standard mode of reporting as that is what is recommended by CHIC at present.
3. All dogs have DNA submitted to AKC for parentage verification and genetic identity.
4. All offspring from breeding is reported to OFA for public viewing. This includes get from stud service effected via contract with the bitch owner.
5. No breeding stock is sold without contractual agreement to have subsequent generations follow the Shepherd's Colony protocol.
6. All dogs produced meet the standards above even working and companion stock sold on spay neuter agreements.
